Take a break from laidback beachside vacations, and challenge yourself to an all-out outdoor adventure tour of Cagayan de Oro! This highly urbanized city in Northern Mindanao is famous for its natural wonders and amenities for extreme outdoor activities. In fact, the city popularized white water rafting in the country, which is now their most sought-after attraction.
Cagayan de Oro or CDO is dubbed as “The City of Golden Friendship.” Kagay-anons are indeed friendly and welcoming to adventurers wanting to overcome their fears and get their heart pumping. Read on to discover what CDO has in store for brave thrill-seekers!
Whitewater Rafting at Cagayan de Oro River
Experience the thrilling fun of conquering the Cagayan De Oro River by trying out whitewater rafting. Depending on how brave you and your group are, you can choose between the shorter beginners’ route with 14 rapids and the longer route with 21 rapids to conquer. Take note that the difficulty levels of the rapids range from beginner to extreme, so listening to your guide is crucial for a safe and enjoyable ride.
Ready to face this challenge? Make sure your Cagayan de Oro tour package includes whitewater rafting, as it’s the must-do activity in the city.
Paragliding at Amaya View
Experience the exhilarating rush of adrenaline in your body when you go on a paragliding adventure in Cagayan de Oro. Launched in 2017, this awesome aerial sport is being offered at the newest CDO tourist destination, Amaya View. From the Indahag Hills of CDO, paraglider pilots take their visitors in a tandem flight over forested hillsides with spectacular views of the city.
If you’re worried about your pilot’s skills, there’s no need. They are professional paragliders from the Northern Mindanao Paragliding Club, and they compete all over the world in different paragliding events.
Trekking and Rappelling at Mapawa Nature Park
Mapawa Nature Park is a natural wonder designed to challenge visitors. All throughout the trek, you will have to overcome obstacles in a fun and thrilling way like sliding, rappelling, and cliff jumping. It’s the perfect destination if you like variety in your outdoor adventures!
The first challenge is sliding on a 20-foot waterfall, then a short rappel down a small waterfall of only 10 feet. What comes next is one of the most heat-pumping parts of the trek—the 25-foot cliff jump, which guests need to execute as instructed lest they face a painful water entry. But the real highlight of the trek is the 65-feet rappelling zone on the side of Treasure Falls. There’s nothing like climbing down a raging waterfall to make you feel alive!
Rappelling and Ziplining at Macahambus Adventure Park
Another fun-packed destination in CDO is the Macahambus Adventure Park. With gorgeous forests, caves, and a deep gorge in the park, there are plenty of adventures to go around.
Try their 120-meter zipline for starters, then walk above the towering canopy bridges 150 feet high up in the trees. However, if you want the ultimate thrill, you can test your rappelling skills and fear of heights at the Macahambus Gorge near the cave entrance.
Water Theme Park Rides at Seven Seas Waterpark and Resort
If for some reason you get tired of CDO’s nature destinations, then go for some man-made adventure on the recently opened Seven Seas Waterpark and Resort. This park features world-class water slides and rides that are not for the faint of heart. Some of these rides have names like the Cyclone, Riptide Reef, and Plank Drop, which all sound like things only hard-core thrill-seekers will love!
Ready to pack up your bags and go to CDO? Don’t forget to bring lots of courage and YOLO spirit, and you will be greatly rewarded!
